A selection of some of my favourite images from a time preceding our life in the outer hebrides.

A black and white photo of a two stone piers extending into the ocean. In the background, there are dunes on the horizon along the coastline under a clear sky.
Black and white photo of a concrete structure on a sandy beach, with the ocean and cloudy sky in the background.
Black and white photo of a train platform with overhead wires, a clock, and an ornate building with scaffolding. The sky is cloudy.

Beadnell Piers

A ten minute long exposure made at Beadnell harbour - Northumberland.

This technique is made possible by the use of neutral density filters, attached to front of the lens. Available in different strengths, these very dark solid looking filters reduce the amount of light reaching the sensor or film. This in turn means the shutter can be open far longer than the conditions would suggest.

Beach in Mono

Black & white images from ‘Hunmanby Gap’ beach on the East Yorkshire coast.

The image left shows an old concrete ‘pillbox’. These structures are found all around the coast of the UK, as a reminder of a conflict past.

Marram Grass

Another long exposure image from Northumberland, this time at Bamburgh beach.

A sturdy tripod is obviously required for this type of Photography.
